Raymond William “Ray” Dunaway, 93, of Lemont Furnace, PA, died peacefully at home on Saturday, March 30, 2024.
He was born on September 27, 1930 in Allison, PA, to the late Eugene Dunaway and the late Mildred (Shipley) Dunaway.
Ray was a proud Marine having served his country in the Korean War.
He was an electrician by trade, having worked for West Penn Power for 44 years.
Ray was a Christian by faith and attended St. Aloysius Church for many years.
In his spare time, he kept very active. He enjoyed playing softball, racquetball and golf. He also enjoyed hunting and playing cards. He impressively played softball for the Fayette County Senior League until he was 75 years old and even more impressively, he golfed until the age of 90!
In particular, he really enjoyed his friends that he made while he enjoyed each of these hobbies. He had countless friends and he cherished them all.
Additionally, he served as a board member of the Laurel Highlands School District for several years.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 53 years, Marge (Frick) Dunaway; children, Michael (Tess) Dunaway of Gulf Shores, Alabama, Jeanne Bartholomai of Dunbar, PA and Greg (Tiza) Dunaway of Normalville, PA; grandchildren, Christopher Dunaway, Carolyn (Jim) Grimm, Daniel (Samantha) Clay, Adam Clay, Haley Dunaway, Jett Dunaway and Lexi Dunaway; four great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and his surviving in-laws, Janice Dunaway, Betty Dunaway, Regina Frick, Gloria and Joe Sible, Mike and Ann Frick as well as Tony and Pat Frick.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Jeffrey Dunaway; grandson, Bryan Clay; brothers, Robert, Gilbert, Sonny and two infants, Richard and George; sisters, Betty and Jane; son-in-law, John Bartholomai and very special aunt and uncle, Jim and Nellie Barnett.
Friends will be received at Burhans-Crouse Funeral Home, 28 Connellsville Street, Dunbar on Tuesday, April 2, 2024, from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Wednesday, April 3, 2024, from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., the hour of service with Pastor Lee Maley officiating.
Interment to follow at LaFayette Memorial Park, Brier Hill, PA.
