JOSEPH EDWARD ‘BUTCH’ SMITLEY

Joseph Edward “Butch” Smitley, 75, of Dunbar, passed away, Sunday, October 16, 2022 at home. 
He was born in Luzerne Township on, June 21, 1947 to the late James Edgar “Jim” Smitley and the late Nellie Virginia “Peg” (Alexander) Smitley. 
Joseph was an avid fisherman and hunter. He enjoyed the days spent shooting at the gun range and watching old movies, in particular, old westerns and those starring John Wayne as well as re-runs of M.A.S.H.
He is survived by his daughter, Angela J. Smitley; siblings, Donald (Pat) Smitley and Charles “Chuck” (Helaine) Smitley; as well as the four furry grandchildren, Roscoe, Shinobi, Peanut and Ju-Ju. 
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, JoAnn (Cosner) Smitley; siblings, Jean Kuznar, William “Bill” Smitley, Connie Todd and James “Jimmy” Smitley. 
Friends will be received at Burhans-Crouse-Crouse Funeral Home, 28 Connellsville Street, Dunbar, PA, Sunday, October 23, 2022, 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.and Monday, October 24, 2022, 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., the hour of service with Pastor Lee Maley officiating. 
Military Honors will be accorded by Hopwood AMVETS Post 103 at the funeral home. 
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the Alzheimer’s Association at 225 N. Michigan Ave., Fl. 17, Chicago, IL 60601 or on their website, act.alz.org.
