James Abraham “Jim” “J. T.” Tony Jr., 69, of Chesapeake, VA (formerly of Dunbar, PA) passed away on Wednesday, January 3, 2024 in the Chesapeake Regional Medical Center, Chesapeake, VA.
He was born on September 22, 1954, to the late James Abraham Tony Sr. and the late Delores Deen Brooks in Connellsville, PA.
James was a proud veteran in the United States Navy.
Upon his return from the Navy, Jim became employed by CSX Transportation where he worked his entire career. He was a train engineer for thirty-five years and was regarded as a mentor and father figure to those whom he had trained and worked alongside.
He will be remembered fondly as family having been the most important thing to him.
He is survived by his children, Dr. Deanna (Charles) Ritenour, Brenton Tony and his significant other, Chrissy Bozzuto and James “Jimmy” (Jenny) Tony; grandchildren, Ryland, Tyler, Khyler, Jameson, Kinsley and Addison; siblings, Tom (Lola) Tony, Jeffrey (Dona) Tony and Larry (Delores) Tony; Uncle Alfred Brooks and Aunt Jeanie Brooks; nieces and nephews, Janie (Josh) Tikey, Amy (Robbie) Butts, Nerissa Tony, Calli Tony, Alex (Christopher)Holbrook, Sam Tony, Troy (Shelly) Cossel, Tara (David) Clark, Ashton Grimm and Allie Grimm and fiancé Hudson; sisters-in-law, Christine (Jim) Grimm and Terri Cain; great-nieces and great-nephews, Abby, Emma, Lena, Lexi, Tyler and MaryJane, Lucy, Eli, Griffin.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sherri A. (Cain) Tony with whom he had been married to for 32 years prior to her passing and a sister, Mary Jane Cossel; and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Bill and Mary Cain.
Friends will be received on Friday, January 12, 2024 from 11:00 am to 1:00 p.m. the hour of service at Burhans-Crouse Funeral Home, 28 Connellsville Street; Dunbar, PA.
Military honors will be accorded by Hopwood AMVETS Post 103.
Private inurnment will take place in Mt. Auburn Cemetery, Dunbar, PA.
