GEORGE LEONARD SR Obituary

George Edward “Pap” Leonard Sr., 78, of Dunbar, passed away Friday, December 9, 2022 at home. 

 He was born April 1, 1944 in Dunbar to the late Floyd “Bus” Leonard I and Birdie Mae (Penwell) Leonard.

 George served in the United States Army. As an Army Specialist Four, he received the Good Conduct Medal while assigned to the 2nd Armored Calvary Regiment in Germany. He received the award for exemplary conduct, efficiency and fidelity in active military service. A tank crewman, in Troop G of the 2nd Reconnaissance Squadron near Bamberg, he entered the Army on June 1965 where he was stationed at Fort Knox, Kentucky, before arriving overseas in October.

 George worked for 39 years as a factory worker at Anchor Glass. He will be remembered as a hard worker who thoroughly enjoyed spending time with his family. He was a great dad!

In his free time, he enjoyed farming, watching Westerns, especially Gunsmoke, and sitting on the back porch in his rocking chair. 

 Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Arlene Rae (Tressler) Leonard; his children, George (Katie) Leonard Jr. and Danny (Rose Della) Leonard; grandchildren, Brittney, Briana, Shelby, Cimberlea, Daniel, Rebecca and Tyllor; his great grandchildren; siblings, Effie Clark, Kenny Leonard, Diana Wingrove, Butch Leonard and Margie (Richard) Brooks; special nephew, Floyd Leonard III, as well as many nieces and many nephews.

 He was preceded in death by his siblings Audrey Smitley, Floyd “Bud” Leonard II, Gary “Hoot” Leonard and Betty Rae Leonard; brothers-in-law, Don Clark, Dave Wingrove, and Ernest Smitley.

 Arrangements by Burhans-Crouse Funeral Home, 28 Connellsville Street, Dunbar.  Per George’s wishes, there will be no public visitation.

 A memorial service will be held on Thursday, December 15, 2022 at 4:00 p.m. at Dunbar Baptist Church, 21 1st Street, Dunbar with Pastor Robert Wrachford officiating.
