Ernest R. “Ernie” Dodrill Jr., 86, of Dunbar, died, Sunday, Aug. 28, 2022, in Mt. Macrina Manor, Uniontown.
He was born, April 5, 1936, in Phillips, to the late Ernest Roosevelt Dodrill Sr. and the late Velma Goldie (Hoover) Dodrill.
He attended Franklin United Methodist Church in Dunbar. Acquiring the nickname of “Preacher” early in life, Ernie was a simple man who enjoyed fixing things and doing for others. He loved to tinker and was able to fix anything. He donated blood frequently and was a member of the Dunbar Volunteer Fire Department. He loved gospel music, and particularly enjoyed the Gaither’s. He enjoyed an adventure and once, hitchhiked across the United States.
Ernie is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Elda E. (Colbert) Dodrill; their three children, Eva Marie (Gurney) Crowe, Beth Ann Shaffer and her fiance, Doug, and John Ernest (Joany) Dodrill; seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren; his siblings, Ernestine Cook, Linda Wagner, Rodney Dodrill and David Dodrill, and his dearly loved sister-in-law, Bonnie (John ’Bud’) Zurick, sister-in-law, Carolyn (Trevor) Tressler; special nephew, Jimmy Shaffer, as well as many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by six sisters.
Friends will be received at Burhans-Crouse Funeral Home, 28 Connellsville Street, Dunbar, PA on Thursday, Sept. 1, 2022, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., the hour of service with Rev. Samantha Corbin officiating.
