Sylvia E. (Chain) Pockstaller, 97, formerly of Morrell, PA, and Dunbar, PA, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 29, 2024.
She was born on May 29, 1927, in Everson, PA, to the late William Clarence Chain and the late Leona Mae (Hoyle) Chain.
Sylvia was the last surviving member of her family.
She met her husband Vincent while working at Anchor Hocking. They went on to be married on December 29th, 1951. After they were married, Sylvia became a housewife and subsequently, the mother of their four children.
She was a member of the Geibel’s Mothers Club and a member of the St Aloysius Altar Rosary Society. For a good night out, Bud and she enjoyed playing cards with some of the neighbors.
She loved to make bread and homemade jellies as well as canning from the garden her husband put in every year. When someone mentioned traveling, she was packed in no time and ready to go.
She loved to go shopping with the girls and enjoyed eating out. Her hobbies were crocheting and reading mystery books which she traded with her sister-in-law Frieda.
Sylvia is survived by four children; sons, Frederick and wife, Audrie, John and Patrick; and daughter as well as caregiver, Theresa “Terri” and husband, Robert Grover; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Vincent, and grandson, Joel.
Friends will be received at Burhans-Crouse Funeral Home, 28 Connellsville Street, Dunbar, PA on Saturday, July 6, 2024, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. when prayers of transfer will be said. A mass of Christian Burial with Fr. Edward Rubido as celebrant will follow at 11:30 a.m. at St. Aloysius Church, 459 Ranch Rd., Dunbar, PA.
Interment to follow at Mt. Auburn Cemetery, Dunbar.
