ROBERT L. (BOB) SCHOLZ

Robert L. “Bob”, “Smart Shopper Bob” Scholz Jr., 77, of Connellsville, PA, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, May 29, 2026, at home.

He was born on December 10, 1948, in Pittsburgh, PA, to the late Robert Leo Scholz Sr. and the late Mary Bernice (Williams) Scholz.

Bob relocated from Pittsburgh, PA, to Connellsville, PA, in 1970 after falling in love with the area and has been a lifelong resident ever since. He owned many businesses in his time here. Most notably, the FayWest Smart Shopper, which he owned and operated from 1980 until 2009, when an accident forced him to end its operation. 

He was a member of the Fayette County Pennsylvania Bigfoot Research Group, Independent Slovak Citizens Club of Connellsville, a former member of the Dunbar Volunteer Fire Department, and also a member of the Dunbar LIONS Club when it existed. 

In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing and hockey.

Bob is survived by his three daughters, Diane (Michael) Rogers, Kelly Redick, and Katie Scholz; six grandchildren, Matthew Kostkas, Sterling Smith, Rhiannon McCloy, Ronin McCloy, Kayahna, and Karys; Uncle Ralph and Aunt Lorraine Scholz; best friend, Cecilia Driscoll; and many other close family and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Richard Scholz; beloved former wife, Lois M. Scholz; and many close family and friends.

Per Bob’s wishes, there will be NO PUBLIC VISITATION at the funeral home. 

A Celebration of Life and Memorial Service will be held at the Independent Slovak Citizens Club of Connellsville, 114 S. 8th Street, Connellsville, PA, on Sunday, June 28th, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., where laughter, music, tall tales, and maybe an off-color joke or two will be told, just like he would have wanted.
