Paul Andrew Rock, 50, of Dunbar, PA, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, in WVU Ruby Memorial Hospital, in Morgantown, WV.
He was born on May 6, 1975, in Uniontown, PA, to the late Ross Paul Rock and the late Brenda Joyce (Hatter) Rock.
Paul was employed by the Boy Scouts of America as the Bushy Run District Scout Executive. For the last nine years, Paul was able to incorporate his love of camping into his work as the Camp Director for both Camp Conestoga as well as Camp Buck Run, which was one of the greatest joys of his life. He loved seeing the attendees & watching them grow & prosper. He was integral in increasing the number of Scouts that came to camp as well as the overall growth and success of the District as a whole.
While at camp, although highly dedicated to the overall success of both of his camps and District as a whole, Paul was at his happiest on the back of a tractor in a field, making sure that camp was always maintained and looking its very best. To Paul, the success of his camps was a reflection of his own personal success.
Also, while there, he forged personal relationships that extended far beyond the physical boundaries of the camps themselves; these people became a part of his family. In particular, he became very close with Mary Pishko and Kenny Bartlett. Together, they formed “The Three Amigos”.
In his spare time, Paul actively volunteered for the local Cub Scout Pack 180 & Boy Scout Troop 180 of Dunbar. He was a Cub Master, Scout Master, Advancement Chair, and overall, played an integral role in the success of the pack, troop, and many scouts throughout the years.
Additionally, he was an irreplaceable member of the Dunbar Community Fest Committee. He served as the Treasurer, manager of all things vendor-related, and in general, organized, orchestrated, and problem-solved all of the logistics that made Fest what it is today. Without his dedication and hard work in these areas, the successful execution of Fest simply would not have been possible.
To those who knew & loved him, his absence in their lives will be profound. But, in particular, to those whom he adored the most, his grandchildren. To Paul, his grandchildren were the light of his life, and they brought him the greatest joy.
He is survived by his loving wife of twenty-eight years, Carol Marie (Snyder) Rock; children, Justin Andrew (Rylee) Rock, Kessa Marie (Hunter) Rhodes, and Tyler Matthew Rock and partner, Anna; grandchildren, Charlee Ann Rock, Stetson Ray Rhodes, Alayna Claire Rock and Camden Michael Rock; siblings, Andrea Adenhart, Heather (Jeff) Bolish, Michael (Jennise) Rock, Christopher (Samantha) Rock, and David (Brittany) Rock; many nieces and nephews; uncle, Kenny Hatter; aunt, Paula Sharps; cousins and good friends.
Friends will be received at Burhans-Crouse Funeral Home, 28 Connellsville Street, Dunbar, on Sunday, September 7, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Monday, September 8, 2025, from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., and Tuesday, September 9, 2025, from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., the hour of service with Pastor Lee Maley officiating.
